Dear SEEDIG Community,
The last few months have been quite challenging in terms of adapting to new realities of life and work dynamics. Governments across the region were forced to adjust their policies on the way to meet the new challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, not all measures launched to counter the virus dissemination can be considered as neutral when viewed through a prism of human rights. Mobile tracking apps fastly became a trendy response to pandemic not only in the SEE+ region but throughout the world. Though, their application raises multiple concerns in terms of data protection and individuals’ privacy.
Given the above and while working on the SEEDIG 6 programme, it was thought that the issue of mobile tracking deserves special attention, and today we are happy to announce the launch of the new SEEDIG intersessional project - COVID-19 Tracking Apps in SEE+. Within the project’s scope, it is planned to host an online meeting to discuss the state of affairs with tracking apps deployment in SEE+, to convene a working group in charge of recommendations drafting, and to present recommendations that can be used by various stakeholders across the SEE+. On this dedicated page, you can find a detailed project description and key deadlines.
To start with, we kindly ask you to fill out a very short survey if you are willing to:
1. volunteer to join the WG in charge of recommendations drafting;
2. help us shape the introductory online discussion.
It will take a maximum of two minutes of your time, and we’ll be waiting for your answers until 23:59 CEST on Tuesday, 16 June 2020.
A dedicated email address for communications related to this project is intersessional at seedig.net.
We are looking forward to making this project a useful initiative for the SEEDIG community, and hoping for your cooperation!
Best,
Olga
(on behalf of Project Co-Leads)
