[seedig] SEEDIG 6: Dates and local partners

Dear Narine, and all,
Just a word of warning, being involved in the organization of EuroDIG: at this point in time I am not sure that the host organizations in Trieste can afford extending the use of the facilities over a longer period of time to take care of SEEDIG business. June and July are already jammed with events in the framework of ESOF 2020, Trieste being the 2020 European City of Science.
OTOH, to have a virtual SEEDIG meeting going on in parallel to the F2F EuroDIG will prevent all SEEDIG folks to attend the EuroDIG - but I am speaking only in my personal capacity.
This said, I understand that you are trying to propose good solutions. What I do not understand is what is the problem that you are trying to solve.
Cheers,
Roberto

Dear Sorina,

True, many people are eager to see each other and discuss the issues of common interest. Yet the global situation with COVID19 and restrictions on travel may prevent people from travelling to Trieste in June for EuroDIG and have face-to face discussions about SEEDIG-related matters.

The online format of EuroDIG may become a compelling necessity and a good opportunity to test the potential of new technologies in running such big and impactful meetings online.

I have two proposals in this respect:

1. To merge SEEDIG and EuroDIG Programs (for this year) and held two subsequent EuroDIG-SEEDIG meetings one after the other, similarly as the 1st SEEDIG and 8th EuroDIG were organized successfully in 2015 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

2. To have a full online meeting(s) on 10-12 of June, 2020 and a face-to-face meeting(s) in September 22-23, 2020.

Thank you for consideration,

Also using this opportunity, would like to congratulate Sonia, Sarah and Olga with becoming new ExeCom members for 2020-2022.

Regards,

Narine

Dear SEEDIG community and partners,

We are hereby sharing several updates regarding the SEEDIG 6 annual meeting, kindly inviting you all to contribute to the planning process, which is now formally resumed.

1. SEEDIG 6 dates

Given the extraordinary situation that SEEDIG has gone through over the past few months, and the delays in the planning process for the annual meeting, SEEDIG 6<https://seedig.net/seedig6/> is moved to the autumn. The exact dates of the meeting are 22–23 September 2020, with the usual pre-events on 21 September.

This change is fully supported by our local partners in Moldova and was also discussed at the January online planning meetings<https://seedig.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/SEEDIG6_January_planning_meetings.pdf>. We trust that moving SEEDIG 6 later in the year will give us all more time for the related planning activities, without having to rush and compromise on quality.

In previous years, having SEEDIG in spring allowed discussions from SEEDIG to feed into EuroDIG. This year’s change, however, brings another advantage: using the EuroDIG meeting in early summer to (a) facilitate discussions between the SEE+ community and the rest of Europe on matters of common interest and then feed those discussions into the SEEDIG meeting; and (b) offer a space for the SEEDIG community to meet up and discuss any SEEDIG-related matters, before the annual SEEDIG event.

2. Local partners

We are glad to announce the following local partners for SEEDIG 6 in Moldova:

  *   Host: Tekwill<https://www.tekwill.md/>
  *   Local partners:
     * Moldovan Association of ICT Companies <https://atic.md/> (ATIC)
     *   E-governance Agency<http://www.egov.md/>
     * Moldova State University<http://usm.md/?lang=en> (it will also host the SEEDIG Youth School)
     *   Mediapoint<http://www.mediapoint.md/en>

Discussions are ongoing with other entities and new partnerships are to be announced soon.

3. Next steps

The Programme Committee is meeting this week to revise the SEEDIG 6 planning process and timeline. They will also define modalities for further community involvement in the programme building process, so stay tuned for updates from the PC.

Meanwhile, any suggestions regarding outreach for SEEDIG 6, new potential local and regional partners, fundraising opportunities, etc. are more than welcome.

We trust that together we will plan another successful meeting and that we will see many of you in Chisinau this September.

Thank you!

Best regards,

Sorina

(on behalf of the Executive Committee)
