Dear Katarina,
I’m very happy you and other Armenian fellows can write to this list!
Congratulations with your recent joining the SEEsummary Editorial team. As
a veteran EuroDIGer (since 2009), I propose including in the upcoming SEE
Summary a yesterday Breaking News and Top Story about the US Senate
recognition of the Armenian Genocide
https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/474306-senate-passes-armenian-genocide-resolution
https://edition.cnn.com/2019/12/12/politics/senate-armenian-genocide-resolution-passes/index.html
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2019/12/12/senate-senate-recognizes-arrecognizes-armenian-genocide-over-objections-trump-and-turkish-government/4410046002/
The connection to the Internet Governance field is the following.
During one of EuroDIGs there was an interesting Workshop dedicated to the
topic of Freedom of Expression FoE: WS5: Freedom of Expression and hate
speech – the dilemma of reconciling FoE with combating racism. (*Freedom of
Expression (FoE) is part of the universal and fundamental rights (Article
19 UDHR and Article 10 ECHR) and is considered as substantial – like the
right to Access – in the information age as well).
Though we cannot access that Workshop now, it is password protected, but I
remember well, that one of the conclusions of that WS5 - Sorina Teleanu was
the author of that Report - was that the Armenian Genocide will never be
recognized*. *
So the News is worth mentioning, as proving the opposite.
I also join my voice to you in expressing gratitude to the Election
Committee for their work, patience and re-starting the process once again.
Thank you and best regards!
Best regards,
Narine Khachatryan
