Thank you Sorina for the great summary.
I would like to take the opportunity to explain a bit more why I had
constrains to organise special SEE-meetings within ICANN meetings. I think
this might have been misunderstood.
I am always in favour of NOT dividing Europe when we are in a global arena.
While I fully support and understand that people from a certain region
(North, Mediterranean, or SEE) meet, organise and exchange among their
neighbours, I have the feeling that when it comes to a European meeting we
mostly speak western and the EE and SEE context plays not such a big role.
I would like to see general European meetings touching all regions of Europe
and in fact discussing EE and SEE matters as well. This is what EuroDIG
likes to achieve. I know we are not there yet...
However I have no strong feelings here, so if we go ahead with separate
meetings I will not oppose.
Best Sandra

Betreff: [Icann-see] SEEDIG: Summary of the virtual meeting on the future of
SEEDIG (21 July)
Dear all,
I would like to start by thanking all those who joined the virtual meeting
earlier today, which was dedicated to discussions on the call for comments
on the future of SEEDIG.
Please find attached a summary of the discussions held at this meeting. In
short, broad support was expressed for SEEDIG 2016 to be organised as a
stand-alone event, in the SEE region, but with very strong connections with
the EuroDIG process. It was mentioned that it would be more valuable for
SEEDIG to be seen as an independent initiative, which has support from
stakeholders in the region. This would give more credibility to SEEDIG as a
process addressed to the Internet governance community in SEE, thus
attracting more attention and having a stronger impact within the region. It
was also outlined during the discussions that, if a decision is made to have
SEEDIG as a stand-alone event, significant work would need to be done on
issues such as: ensuring that the results of SEEDIG feed into EuroDIG in a
meaningful way, ensuring strong support for SEEDIG, finding modalities for
more actively involving SEE stakeholders throughout the entire SEEDIG
preparatory process, etc.
In terms of next steps, the call for comments remains open until 31 July,
and all those who have not already shared their views on the future of
SEEDIG are kindly invited to do so. After the deadline, a compilation of all
input received will be prepared by the executive committee and shared with
the mailing list, most probably together with a proposal for an approach for
SEEDIG 2016 (drawing on the submitted input). Another virtual meeting will
then be scheduled with the aim of making a final decision on SEEDIG 2016.
The intention is to have this decision made by middle August.
Thank you!
Best regards,
Sorina
(on behalf of the executive committee)
